About Indoor Comfort

Early Beginnings

Indoor Comfort Heating & Cooling building, team and trucks in the 1950sIndoor Comfort was established in Ypsilanti, Michigan by John Montanye in 1951. John built up the business over the years with the help of many dedicated and skilled employees. He retired in the mid 1970s and one of his business partners, Boyd Yard, continued running Indoor Comfort until 1991. Boyd then sold the company to his service manager, Mike Martin, who had started working as a service technician years before.

Mike Takes Over

Mike Martin, former owner of Indoor ComfortMike Martin started as a service technician, became a manager, and then purchased the business. He was and still is very committed to Indoor Comfort. When he became owner, 75% of Indoor Comfort’s work was commercial and new construction. Over the years, Mike shifted the focus to residential service and replacement. He very much enjoyed visiting people in their homes and finding a solution to their heating and cooling problems. Today, Mike is retired and Indoor Comfort continues to only do residential work and our dedicated team enjoys working with the local community to meet their needs.

Great Service Through the Generations

Indoor Comfort has always been grateful for the loyalty of our many customers. We consider it a great privilege when we are able to serve later generations of the same families that John Montanye, founder of Indoor Comfort, had served. On one occasion, in 2012, Mike sold a new heating system to a young couple from Ypsilanti who were third generation customers. Both sets of parents had been valued customers of Mike’s and the grandparents had been original customers of John’s. This family has stayed loyal to Indoor Comfort since the 1950s. This is the kind of relationship Indoor Comfort is always trying to create and maintain.

The Tradition of Excellence Continues Today

Molly Wilson, Kurt Ritchie and Cory Picklesimer owners of Indoor ComfortToday, Indoor Comfort is run by a managerial team that was handpicked by Mike Martin: Kurt Ritchie whom he chose to take his place as President and lead salesman; Molly Wilson, Mike’s daughter whom he trained to be his Business Manager; and Cory Pickelsimer, a longtime trusted employee who is now the senior lead installer and Installation Manager. This leadership team and the dedicated employees of Indoor Comfort continue the tradition of extraordinary service first started by John, continued by Boyd, and kept going by Mike.
